CORE VALUES

Every person lives their life based on at least one core value, even though it may not be blatantly evident. As we prepare for Jesus’ soon coming, we are reminded that there are core values that He wants to instill in His people that make up each person’s character. Here’s an acrostic that reflects core values as it relates to CHARACTER. What are your camp’s core values? How are they demonstrated?
Christ-centered
Honesty
Accountability
Respect
Attitude
Courage
Trust
Ethics & Integrity
Responsibility

SUMMER CAMP EVANGELISM REPORT

Be sure to print this form as a convenient way to keep track of your summer camp attendance, those requesting baptism, and decisions made for Christ. You will want to send in your report to Tracy Wood on or before September 30th. Thanks for doing your part in making known the value of camp ministry throughout the North American Division!

2017 Summer Camp Evangelism Report Form

FRESH FOLLOW-UP ON DECISIONS FOR CHRIST

One of the challenges many summer camps have is the follow-up with those young people who have made decisions for Christ or for baptism. Craig Heinrich, Leoni Meadows’ Administrative Camp Director, shared a proposal to the conference evangelism committee to sponsor a young person to actively follow up those decisions. That proposal was approved and a person has been hired to fill that role.

LOG CABIN AT LEONI MEADOWS

At Leoni Meadows’ Frontier Camp, a log cabin kit was purchased from donations and constructed. The cabin, along with a teepee, creates the thematic setting for their campfire programs that are hosted there each week. It took about four days to put the logs together once the concrete foundation had ‘set’. In the picture below, the roofing still needs to be completed.

HELP NEEDED IN HAWAII THIS COMING YEAR!

Camp Directors…You may have one or more of your staff who may be looking at taking a year out of school. If so, have them consider volunteering as an ASSISTANT TO THE CAMP MANAGER IN HAWAII!  In brief, they would serve as an assistant to Dennis Anderson, the Camp Waianae Camp Manager, in all areas of duties such as maintaining the grounds (lawn mowing), cleaning facilities, checking user groups in and out, providing user group supervision, and repairs of buildings. They should know how to be a team player and follow instructions by exhibiting initiative, working with minimal supervision, being adaptable and able to evaluate priorities, use equipment in a safe manner, and keep things tidy and neat. Of course, good English speaking skills are essential. For more information see Job Openings below. Dennis can be contacted at danderson@hawaiisda.com .

THEME SONG SHIRTS
Does your camp have a theme song? One camp decided that each year they would put one phrase of their theme song on the back of their staff shirts. After five years, those staff who were there for five years would have the entire song. At the evening campfire program, selected staff wear the five shirts, stand on stage in a line and, while singing the song, turn around revealing their phrase to be sung by the group.

AACP CAMP DIRECTORY NOW AVAILABLE

Wimberly Wolfe has graciously provided all of the members an AACP Camp Directory. If you would like one, click on this link and for those of you who wish, you can also print it off: AACP Camp Directory

ONE MORE SALE

Holidays and birthdays are often ‘gift-giving’ times and your camp’s store may provide items that could be purchased as gifts. Here’s a tip: When completing a sale simply ask..."Is there someone else on your holiday or gift list that I may help you with?" It really works! Happy Retailing!   For more ideas, contact Patti Patti Biro and Associates; P.O. Box 2994; Fredericksburg, TX 78624 (760) 712-7385 or go to their website at http://www.pattibiro.com

IS THAT EGG FRESH?

Here is how to tell if your eggs are fresh: Place the egg in a bowl of water. If the egg lays on its side at the bottom, it is still quite fresh. If the egg stands upright on the bottom, it is still fine to eat (but should be eaten very soon or hard-boil it). If the egg floats to the top, it is past its prime and is not good for eating.

AACP CONVENTION

As has already been announced, the AACP convention will be held at Pine Springs Ranch in the Southeastern California Conference. Check-in will begin sometime Wednesday afternoon, November 29 and conclude with Sunday breakfast on December 3, 2017. You might want to plan some vacation days before or after since there are plenty of attractions in Southern California. NOTE: The AACP Board will be meeting that same Wednesday morning at 9:00, so you might want to arrive Tuesday evening. More information will be coming out on that later. More information will be shared as it becomes available. Hope to see you there!

TOP TEN BUSINESS PHRASES THAT SHOW YOU CARE!

Most businesses know these, and they apply to camps and to camp staff. Here are phrases #’s 6 through 10. The top five will be in the August E-News.

10. The TEN most important words:
“I APOLOGIZE FOR OUR MISTAKE. LET ME MAKE IT RIGHT.”
When something goes wrong, most people just want to be heard and acknowledged. So listen, apologize, then ask what you can do to make it right.
9. The NINE most important words:
“THANK YOU FOR YOUR BUSINESS, PLEASE COME BACK AGAIN.”
Repeat customers cost less than new customers and are often more loyal.
8. The EIGHT most important words:
“I’M NOT SURE, BUT I WILL FIND OUT.”
It’s ok if you don’t know the answer; it’s not ok to make the customer keep searching for it. That’s your job.
7. The SEVEN most important words:
“WHAT ELSE CAN I DO FOR YOU?”
Be prepared to go the extra mile; there is less competition there.
6. The SIX most important words:
“WHAT IS MOST CONVENIENT FOR YOU?”
Your customers will be pleasantly surprised when you ask what’s convenient for them.

SOLAR ECLIPSE MAY BE COMING YOUR WAY!

This map shows the path of totality for the August 21, 2017, total solar eclipse. To see the total solar eclipse, you'll need to be located somewhere along the blue path that stretches across the U.S.A. If you're positioned outside the path of totality, you will be able to see a partial solar eclipse.

INSPIRATION, ENCOURAGEMENT & COUNSEL

MORE THAN A LUXURY

Someone once said, "Friendship is the greatest luxury in life." But the friendship of Jesus is more than a luxury; it is the secret of eternal life; it is the pearl of great price, and to buy it, costs all. He requires everything of us, and not until we make a complete surrender does He fully disclose Himself to us. The more we identify ourselves with His aims, desires, and ideals, the nearer and more real He will become to us. — Matilda Erickson Andross
