We were shocked when we saw him bounding off the bus arriving with only a small blue plastic Wal-Mart bag in hand.  Later I learned it contained only a wash cloth, a pair of socks and a t-shirt, hardly what our other campers show up at camp with.  Would he get cold at night, what would he swim in, what would he rest his head on at night; these were some of the questions asked by my staff.

Each morning at camp worship my eyes would seek him out to see how he was doing.  I noticed he had on a new pair of tennis shoes and a new pair of swimming trunks and even a warm sweat shirt for the cool mornings. I later learned that the staff had taken up a collection for him and gone to town to purchase a few things for him.  But more than his physical needs being meet, I wanted to see his eyes, and see what story they would tell me.

As the week progressed I watched him enjoying every part of camp from the songs and stories to the horses and the pool.  But it was the evening programs that captured his attention.  I was sure he had never heard anything like this before.  By Friday night I was anxiously waiting to see what he would think when he saw the story of the cross unfold before his eyes.  At the end of the play just after Jesus comes out of the tomb and all of heaven rejoices the music had just begun to fade when *Keith jumps up and points his finger into the air, and says, “That’s the best story I ever heard, tell it again!”

As our summer season has concluded, we begin looking forward to our annual convention.  My hope is that you will come find rest from serving in camp ministry and join us in “Reflecting” this year at Pine Lake Retreat December 3 – 7, 2008.

Keith left camp that next Sunday with more than a Wal-Mart bag full, he left with his heart full of a love from His Savior he saw “reflected” by the camp staff.
