Camp History
National Camps for Blind Children began in 1967 with one camp and 23 visually impaired campers. This unique program is designed to place emphasis on the ability rather than disability of visually impaired individuals. National Camps for Blind Children now holds camps across the United States and Canada.

Eligibility
Children and adults, ages 9-65, are elegible on a non-discriminatory basis. Applications are available from local Christian Record Services representatives or international headquarters in Lincoln, NE.

Facilities
Scheduled at well-equipped campsites, chosen for their standards of excellence and geographic location, these camps are operated by well-qualified staff. Special safety precautions are taken in all areas of the program. Prior to camp, counselors and staff attend orientation dealing with blind persons. One counselor is assigned to each four campers. Medical staff is on duty 24 hours a day. An infirmary is available for minor ailments.

Activities
Archery, campfire, mini bikes, talent program, canoeing, repelling, tandem bicycling, beeper baseball, crafts, rock climbing, hiking, boat riding, water skiing, camp council, horseback riding, swimming, cooking and outdoor education, horsemanship camps, marine biology (sea camp), and computer.

Arrival and Departure

Registration begins at 3:00 p.m. on the day camp starts, and departure time on closing day is between 8:00 and 10:00 a.m., except where otherwise designated on acceptance letter.

Transportation
Parents or guardians of youth campers are responsible for transportation to and from camp. Adult campers are responsible for their own transportation.
