Camp History
First camp was held in 1949. Renovations began in 1990 with new cabins, a lodge, office cabin, and nature center.  Construction was completed debt-free and the dedication was held on June 19, 1994. Mt. Aetna is certified with the American Camping Association, the Camp Horsemanship Association, USA  (ski), AACP, and Christian Camping International.

Information on Property and Camp Facilities
The nature center houses one of the finest collections of stuffed birds and animals in the NAD camp system. Mt. Aetna Retreat Center is easily accessible from the Baltimore-Washington metro area, and you can visit Gettysburg, Pennsylvania; Sharpsburg, Maryland (Antietam Battlefield); Harpers Ferry, West Virginia; Baltimore's Inner Harbor and Fort McHenry; and Washington, DC—all are within an hour and fifteen minutes' drive from the camp.

Camp Programs and Special Features
Mt. Aetna is a year-round retreat center situated on 70 acres. There are 20 heated family cabin units, 16 house 9, and 4 accommodate 6 people.  Each cabin has a private bath. There are also 18 guest rooms, heated and air-conditioned, with private and semi-private baths. The cafeteria seats 175. Four meeting rooms seat from 35 to 200. An outdoor amphitheater seats 175. The camp also has two small group kitchenettes. Recreational facilities include a huge seasonal pool, basketball court, and volleyball court, low ropes team building course, high ropes challenge course and a 42' climbing tower and zip line.

Directions to Camp
From I-70, take Exit 35 to Route 66 toward Smithsburg. Go 1.4 miles to the traffic circle, turn right on Mt. Aetna Road. Drive approximately one mile and turn right at the entrance sign.
